Happy Graduation!
I keep "trying to graduate" but I'm not quite there . . . I figure I'm on grade 43 (1st-12th Grades + 5 college years + 26 years as an educator) . . . Just a couple more years to go!! But this young lady completed 5th Grade and is MOVING on up!! And this young man will be a SENIOR graduating high school next year this time . . .
In the fall, it'll be the first time in 15 years I've gone to school without a Broamlette?! I hope I can remember how to do that . . . YAY for GROWING UP!! Looking forward to doing that one day . . .

Cooling Breath
Stick out your tongue and breathe in over your tongue for a "cooling breath!" Some folks can "tootsie roll" their tongues and then inhale. It just depends on who is your momma/daddy, your genetics, not every tongue can do it. Cooling Breath may settle your body and calm anxiety. This might be the time of year to try it?!!

When Your Ears Hang Low . . .
How can you manage sad feelings? Try talking to someone and sharing how you feel. You can draw your sad feelings or use your toys to play your sad feelings. You can do some exercise that moves your whole body. You can think about things that make you happy and make pictures of them in your mind. ALL Feelings are OKAY . . . it's what you DO with them that can be TRICKY . . .

Flower Power
Every thing, every life, every experience has a beginning, middle, and end. There are good parts and not so good parts of the beginning, middle and end. A flower begins as a seed, with so much potential and opportunity. It grows and BLOOMS, a beautiful middle. A flower dies and becomes fertilizer for the soil, contributing to the richness of the earth to grow more beautiful flowers! As we approach the conclusion of the 2016-17 school year, I am remembering the "power of the flower" and how each day in that process is important. I am thinking how the beginning, middle and end cycle on . . . so let's FINISH STRONG! I am willing to show up and be my best self, give my best effort every day. How about you??

Unicorn of the Sea
Did you know a narwhal's long, horn-like tooth can grow up to 10 feet? Did you know these animals can hold their breath for 25 minutes, and they may live up to 90 years?? When I read Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea by Ben Clanton, I also learned how much fun it is to eat waffles with friends! What did you learn today?

HIPPO-Hurray for Thursday!
I had more hats than heads today!!! "May the Fourth" Be with You, Star Wars Fans! We breathed like Darth Vader in celebration. I carried my pizza hat to encourage folks to participate in "Dining Out" tonight at Knead Pizza! I wore my hippo hat to cheer on Day 4 of Screen-Free Week! There are other things to do . . . No LION!!!
There are so MANY things you can try during SCREEN-FREE Week! One of my favorite options: SIT STILL. Find a comfortable seat, focus on your breathing and when your mind starts to wander, direct yourself back to the breath going in and out of your body. I read a GREAT book today: Mind Bubbles by Heather Krantz (https://www.amazon.com/Mind-Bubbles-Exploring-Mindfulness-Kids/dp/0998703702) It describes treating your thoughts and feelings like soap bubbles. Soap bubbles eventually "POP!" And so it is with whatever you're thinking or feeling--thoughts and feelings come and go . . . The magic of "sitting still" is tuning into your breath. Be BRAVE! Don't be CHICKEN!
As you venture into non-screen activities this week, try a "chicken dance!" Be sturdy on one leg and then bend the opposite leg, holding the foot with the same side hand. Lean into the "dance," belly button reaching to the ground. Stretch the opposite hand for balance! Guaranteed to make you giggle or "BAWK!"
