MOnKeY BuSiNESs

MOnKeY FrIeNdS are too wild and crazy.  They have trouble keeping their hands to themselves.  Sometimes MOnKeY FrIeNdS hurt others unintentionally . . .

MOnKeY FrIeNdS can take a deep breath (or several) to gain more self-control!

Channeling extra energy in a positive way can also transform a MOnKeY FrIeNd into a TEDDY BEAR FRIEND!  Planking is a positive way to channel:  https://sites.google.com/site/zipadeebee/resources/planks

She Sells Seashells

Nah, she just gives them away!  SHELLcome to the SECOND week of school!  Can you believe anybody ever wore a bathing suit like this?? I shared seashells today because shells have a pretty good story . . . Did you know that a shell's color, thickness and development is based on it's environment?  I've often thought it's kind of like that with people too?!  We are products of our experiences, who and where we hang out . . . Healthy environments create healthier peeps.  People who are positive, lift up others.  Hard workers inspire more effort and creativity.  Like trees, shells also have growth rings!  In 2018-2019, let's create a colorful and strong growth ring TOGETHER as we empower ALL to design the future! #Lex1Empowers #PowerofONE #justkeepswimming #bethewildcardforsomeone #mrsbroamhats

Mrs. Broam's BRIGHT Ideas for a Successful School Year . . .

Mrs. Broam shares BRIGHT ideas for a successful school year!

TIP #1~ALL Feelings are OK!  Feelings come in two flavors:  Pleasant and UNpLeasSAnT.
We don't enjoy the unpleasant feelings.
They feel wonky, upsetting, itchy and scratchy. But unpleasant feelings happen and are real and must be felt in healthy ways (1--nobody gets hurt & 2--nothing gets broken).  You gotta feel them to get back to the more pleasant ones.  If you try to ignore or shove aside unpleasant feelings, they don't "go away" -- they kinda grow bigger and BIGGER and then it gets REALLY MESSY.  School Counselors can help when it gets really messy, but we can also help proactively with managing feelings in healthy ways!  My favorite way to get started is TIP #2~TAKE A DEEP BREATHE (or three) .  .  .
A deep breath is calming and soothing to your nervous system.  It clears your brain for better decision making.  A quality breath gets oxygen where your body needs it to be healthy and strong.  It  doesn't cost anything.  You don't need a lot of space or equipment to get it done.
A Hoberman Sphere does add fun to the breathing process.  It reminds us to breath deeply, filling the belly with the breath, expanding side ribs and lifting collar bones.  Petting your dog or cat often relaxes them, right?  Breathing is like that for you!
TIP #3~Get good rest.  According to the National Sleep Foundation, most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep each night.  Teenagers need 8-10.  School age children, or 6-13 year olds, need 9-11 hours! And 10-13 hours is recommended for 4 and 5 year olds . . . How much sleep are you getting each day??????  Get good rest~it's the BIGGEST way to be prepared for each day of learning.

TIP #4~Put on your LISTENING EARS and tune in to others.  Listen with ears, eyes, brain and heart.  Put down the phone.  Take time to be with the folks you share space with.  So many issues are rooted in lack of connection and relationship.  We NEED EACH OTHER to do the work to be done each day.  People don't need you to FIX something so much as they need for you to HEAR how it's broken.  Here's a GREAT story to explore that thought more:

TIP #5~READ
Every time you read a story you experience a way to solve a problem.  It's a great opportunity for conversation.  This particular story, Back to School Tortoise by Lucy M. George, introduces a TEACHER that is ANXIOUS about going to school . . . I love to share this story to remind (1) You don't have to WANT to, (2) it's just what's NEXT. (3) It would be a bonus if you WANTED to do everything you HAVE TO DO . . . Have books in every room to spark discussions.  Listen to them in the car. Was that a good way or not-so-good way to solve a problem?  Would that strategy work for you?  How would you solve the problem differently?

"Together as a community we can achieve more, inspire others, and reveal a brighter future for all of us.  This isn't just what we do, but who we are." ~Global Family Yoga

Froggie FriYAY

(On the First Week of School) "Well done!" Froggie cheered.

We are enjoying Too Many Frogs by Sandy Asher.  We are reviewing:  "There are gonna be PROBLEMS . . . but WE are PROBLEM SOLVERS!"  Like Froggie and Rabbit, we can use our words to work out our differences in a healthy way.

Here's a little bit of the story:

Here's some of our favorite quotes from the story:

We also practiced:

"When the going gets tough, the tough get BREATHING!"

and

"ALL Feelings are OKAY!"~even the ones that are UNPLEASANT and we don't enjoy . . .
I hope these ideas are unFROGetable?! 🐸🐸🐸
