Words from a Watch D.O.G.S.
Our Friday, 1/23, Watch D.O.G.S., Justin McClarrie shares: "It is truly something special to be able to be a part of not only my kids educational experiences, but having a small impact on all of the children I get to interact with during my time there. I hope you guys know that the program is truly a one of a kind and rewarding one. Please pass my appreciation on to all of the teachers that allowed me to be a part of their class and did so with open arms. It definitely ranks among the top of my list."

Hakuna Matata
From Wikipedia: "Hakuna matata" is a Swahili phrase; literally translated, it roughly means "there isn't a problem/trouble".
Pumbaa and Timon introduced us to "no worries for the rest of your days" in Disney's "The Lion King." I'm worried because I have to get on a plane tomorrow. I'm worried because I have to navigate a transfer at the Atlanta airport by myself. I'm worried because I'm traveling to WISCONSIN, and I'm usually cold in SOUTH CAROLINA. I've had butterflies in my stomach today. At lunch, my friend said, "You always have butterflies before you fly." Yep, that's true! If I consider my feelings as visitors, I'm reminded they've visited before, and they'll be on their way soon and very soon. The visit lasts only as long as I allow it . . . talking your feelings is another way to manage how you feel in a healthy way!

Anger Management
Sometimes an angry feeling grabs ahold of us and won't seem to let go!
Woodchopper Breathing is an excellent strategy for "moving" the anger out of your body! It is a choice we can make and nobody gets hurt, nothing gets hurt and we don't hurt ourselves. Stand with your feet apart. Breathe in through your nose, pretending to bring an axe up and over your head. On the out breath, pretend to bring the axe down towards the ground and let out a loud "HAAAAA!" The HAAAAA breath moves any anger trapped inside of you! When your anger has escaped, you are calm and happy again.

Notice & Acknowledge
What if you considered your feelings as visitors? Like the owl in the tree, just watch and observe. Some guests are more welcomed than others . . . Some feelings are more pleasant, but ALL feelings are OK! How do you manage your feelings?
We are practicing MOOving and BREATHING this week to self-regulate. These strategies are SUPER POWERS!

"Just Duckie" vs. "For the Birds"
I'm in charge of what I THINK! Is it gonna be "Just Duckie" vs. "For the Birds?" Today I wore my duckie hat on top of my owl hat. When I'm thinking a situation is "for the birds" and too challenging, I'm gonna figure how to be up for the challenge and consider how to be positive. Today I wore 3 pairs of gloves, and it was at least 10 degrees warmer, practically "balmy" when thinking of yesterday?! Friday is "Just Duckie" because I choose for it to be!

Think Warm Thoughts on Thursday
Morning duty was in the "teens" today . . . my smile and fingers were FROZEN! I kept trying to sing Olaf's song, "In Summer!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFatVn1hP3o
I LOVE the idea of summer too!
